HEALTH HAZARD DATA

KNOWN HAZARDS: Acute - Skin and respiratory irritant. Prolonged exposure to moist skin can cause chemical burns. Chronic - Long-term and repeated inhalation of dusts can lead to respiratory difficulty.

CARCINOGENICITY: Respirable silica (sand) is classified by IARC as Group-2A based upon studies of quarry and foundry workers. The nature and use of this product, however, does not pose a cancer risk to humans. The use of a NIOSH-approved dust mask in any dusty situation will reduce the potential for exposure to silica.

PRIMARY ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: Dermal. Inhalation.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE: Contact with the eyes or moist skin can lead to irritation and possibly burns. Prolonged and repeated exposure to the hands can lead to drying of the skin and dermatitis. Chronic overexposure to dusts can lead to breathing difficulty.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Eye, skin, and respiratory conditions.

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES

EYES: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 5 minutes while holding eyelids apart. See a physician.

SKIN: Flush immediately with plenty of water and dry thoroughly. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

INHALATION: Get fresh air immediately. If symptoms occur and persist, consult a physician.

INGESTION: Give large volumes of water or milk to drink for dilution effect. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to by medical personnel. Get medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

OTHER: Referral to a physician is recommended if there is any question about the seriousness of the injury/exposure.

CONTROL MEASURES AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

VENTILATION: General (i.e. natural or mechanically induced fresh air movements that maintain dust concentrations below recommended exposure limits).

EYE PROTECTION: Safety glasses or goggles are recommended.

SKIN PROTECTION: Work gloves and/or barrier creams are recommended to prevent irritation or drying of skin.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Wear a NIOSH-approved dust mask when exposure to dusts is encountered.

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE

HANDLING AND STORING PRECAUTIONS: Avoid generating dust. Store in a dry location preferably between 40 and 90° F. Follow label instructions for proper mixing.

SPILL PROCEDURES: Sweep up and place in suitable containers for recycle or disposal.

HAZARD COMMUNICATION: Prepared in accordance with the federal OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.

HMIS CODES: Health 1, Flammability 0, Reactivity 0, PPE B

DOT SHIPPING INFO: Not regulated

TSCA INVENTORY STATUS: Chemical components listed on TSCA inventory.
